The messy bun. A girl's go-to hair style for bad hair days and lazy days. It's also a quick fix when you run out of time getting ready. As crazy as it seems, "perfecting" the messy bun is something that most of us work hard to do. Today I'm sharing my method for getting that "perfect" messy bun on the first try (or two).
If you don't own an invsibobble hair tie, get one! This is the only hair tie I use for messy buns. It keeps my hair secure without causing damage or leaving creases.
Start by gathering your hair like you would for a pony tail. Some people like the kinks in their hair for more of a messy look but I prefer to smooth everything out as much as possible.
Using the hair tie, pull your hair 3/4 of the way thru. Leave the ends loose for the messy look.
Twist the hair tie and pull your hair thru again while folding the ponytail in half. You should start to see a bun forming.
Depending on your hair length and fullness, pull the hair thru the band a third time. I have long, thin hair so this is a must for me! Be sure to pull as much hair thru the band as possible. Having the hair secure is important for the next step.
At this point, I tug and pull on the bun to loosen it up, give it volume, and make it fuller! This is the key to really making your bun look messy! If there are any loose ends, tuck them in and secure them with bobby pins.
Viola! A messy bun without all the fuss. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments!
